How hard is it to pay for something on ebay?! Seemingly for everyone I sell to, too hard to complete quickly after winning the auction. The last two items I’ve sold, one was a fraudster, which is a whole different kettle of fish, and the last one, still hasn’t been paid yet, a couple of days after the auction finished. 

I don’t know about you, but I pay for everything I win within an hour… So to me, waiting a couple of days, especially without giving a reason, seems like an excessive amount of time, considering it’s only £15.00 as well. 

Maybe it’s just been a bad week, or maybe many people are like this, either way, it’s slowly putting me off trying to make a little bit of money through an ebay shop account.

Beta-Voltaics can be simply described as radioactive batteries. The Beta refers to the use of emitted electrons from beta decay and the voltaic means “produces a voltage”. So quite descriptive.

The physics behind it seems fairly simple, put a beta radioactive source in the centre of an electron absorbent material, so that the electrons emitted by the beta decay are absorbed and converted to electricity, and then use the current produced to power something. However, finding the right radioactive source, or finding an efficient converter material is proving to be a struggle for development companies. 

If we could get around these problems then this technology could possibly be used to power the next generation of hybrid/green cars. These batteries can last for 10/20 years, so you should be able to get a lot of miles per refill. Another possible problem will be the availability of the radioactive material. However, depending on how much is needed, there are enough nuclear power plants producing nuclear waste, if it is off the right kind….

So we could potentially have a fuel source thats cleaner than fuel, longer lasting than electricity and less flammable than hydrogen in accidents. Sounds good to me…

To me, it makes a certain sense that the universe must have an easily accessible energy source for things to tick… Though I’m not sure what form it takes, or what it is…

Could a new battery be made from a radioactive material held in a magnetic field, and every time it emits a particle, the energy from that particle is absorbed (what by? I do not know), and that creates an electric current, thus producing a battery? If old recycled nuclear material from sellafield could be adapted to this use… However, it would need to be an alpha emitting source else it is dangerous to use…

Also, if space is filled with energy in the form of matter, so is time filled with energy and if so, what is its form??

 I passed my driving test first time! 2 minors on mirrors and gears (I tried to pull away in third) but everything else was fine.
